Brighton and Hove Albion want £50million for Manchester United target Ben White
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United will need to fork out the cash to sign Brighton and Hove Albion star Ben White.
The 23-year-old was amongst the bright spots in what was eventually an underwhelming season for the Seagulls in 2020/21. He was rewarded for his performances with a call-up to the England squad for the Euros, replacing the injured Trent Alexander-Arnold.
With United skipper Harry Maguire a doubt for the tournament, White could find playtime easier to come by. A good tournament will only enhance his image but also the asking price.
Thanks to his England selection, Brighton are now seeking £50million for the player’s services. It represents a marked increase over the £35m that was touted just a week ago.
While Graham Potter’s side would like to keep hold of their talented centre-back, an offer worth £50m will be too good to turn down. There are no shortage of suitors either, with the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal all keen.
The south coast club rejected a £25m bid from Leeds last season. While White’s fine form and subsequent England call-up have seen his value sky-rocket, a solid showing this summer would only boost it further.
With three years to go on his current deal, Brighton hold the aces when it comes to negotiations. Moreover, they could strengthen their hand further if they offer him a new deal this summer.
It remains to be seen if Gareth Southgate will go with a back-three in the Euros. White’s development will be watched with keen eyes by a number of teams in the Premier League.

While he is far from the complete package, the 23-year-old has shown good acumen and understanding of the game. Moreover, in the right environment, he could blossom into a top-class centre-back.
While United are in need of a new defender, it remains to be seen if they are willing to give in to Brighton’s demands for White.
