Raphael Varane ready to choose Manchester United thanks to lucrative new offer
According to Spanish outlet ABC (h/t The Express), Real Madrid ace Raphael Varane appears to be in favour of making a move to Manchester United in the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils have been following the French international since his time at Lens. Having won everything at the Bernabeu, the 28-year-old appears ready to pursue a new challenge.
Varane has around a year left on his current deal and will be a free agent next year. While Real are keen to keep him on, it would appear United can offer him a better deal.
According to the report, United’s offer will offer the Frenchman a lucrative payday for the next five years. Real want a fee in the region of £60million to let their prized asset go but United could try to lower it given the player’s contract situation.
Another advantage United have is Real reappointing Carlo Ancelotti to replace Zinedine Zidane as the manager. Varane does not appear to have the best relationship with the Italian and openly stated that he thrived in Ancelotti’s absence.
According to another report, Real could make another push to offer Varane a new deal and also offer him the captain’s armband as a sweetener.
Varane is among the best players in his position and would add much to the United backline. The Red Devils are in need of a reliable defender to partner Harry Maguire in defence.
A proven winner, he would add more than just ability to the Red Devils squad. As a side that is once again looking to won trophies, Varane’s experience will be a huge addition.
