According to Manchester Evening News, Villarreal star Pau Torres has played down the chances of him leaving the club amidst interest from Manchester United.

The Spanish international is coming off an excellent season that has seen his stock rise massively. He put in an excellent performance against United in the Europa League final further enhancing his reputation.

He is now focussed on representing the Yellow Submarine in the Champions League next season. While his performances will only add to more rumours, he isn’t getting carried away.

“Next year we have the Champions League ahead of us, and that’s what I’m focused on. Those rumours mean that you’re doing a good job. I’m calm.”

While Villarreal are ready to listen to offers, that does not mean they are willing to lower their asking price. Torres has a £55.8m release clause in his contract and the club will not accept anything less than that figure.
