Manchester United set to pocket millions if Romelu Lukaku quits Inter Milan this summer
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United could be set to pocket millions if Romelu Lukaku decides to leave Italian champions Inter Milan this summer.
The Belgian international led the Nerazzurri to the Serie A title and even won the MVP for the 2020/21 season. It is fair to say that he has done well since leaving United in 2019.
Lukaku’s performances have seen him garner interest from former side Chelsea. Having won the Champions League, Thomas Tuchel appears to be keen to strengthen his hand further this summer.
However, Manchester City are also keen on the player and are in the market following the exit of Sergio Aguero. Inter, for their part, are in desperate need of funds and could choose to cash in on their prized asset.
Regardless of where he ends up, United could end up enriching themselves. This is due to the sell-on clause we negotiated as part of the £73.7million transfer that saw Lukaku move to Inter.
Though the sell-on clause is unknown, the club previously inserted a 25% clause in the case of Wilfried Zaha’s sale to Crystal Palace. Anything close to that will be welcome news for us.
United themselves had to pay £5million of that fee to Lukaku’s former club, Everton, due to a sell-on clause, and will hope to receive even more should he leave the San Siro.

Lukaku spent just two years at United, scoring 42 goals and assisting 13 in just 96 games for the Red Devils.
The Belgian, to his credit, was a decent player for United. While he may not have been the goalscoring machine we sought, his contributions do appear to go under the radar. The 27-year-old could yet be ready to do us another favour.
