Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes nominated for Premier League Player of the Year award
According to The Metro, Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Year award.
The 26-year-old is the lone United star to feature in the list. With 18 goals and 11 assists in just 37 Premier League games, Fernandes is the highest-scoring midfielder this season.
Fernandes played a major role in United finishing second in the Premier League last season. It is fair to say that we may not have been able to do so without him in the side.
The United ace ended the Premier League season as the third-highest scorer in the league and also the second top assist-getter. The only player to outdo him on both parameters is Harry Kane. (h/t BBC)
The English skipper finished top of the standings in both categories and is a major threat to Fernandes’ hopes of landing the award.
A total of eight players have been nominated. Apart from Kane and Fernandes, the others are Kevin de Bruyne, Ruben Bias, Mohamed Salah, Jack Grealish, Mason Mount and Tomas Soucek.

Of those nominated, De Bruyne and Salah have won the award once each in the last three seasons. Fernandes for his part won two Premier League Player of the Month awards for November and December 2020. He also won the Premier League Goal of the Month for February 2021.

It does not in any way diminish the United’s star’s accomplishments. Hopefully, it will fire him on to achieve even further heights next season.
