Manchester United take measures to ensure fan trouble does not derail Liverpool clash again

According to The Daily Mail, Manchester United are taking extra measures to ensure anti-Glazer protestors will not disrupt the rearranged fixture against Liverpool later tonight.

The game was supposed to take place on 2nd May but was postponed after United fans stormed Old Trafford ahead of kick-off. Safety concerns forced officials to shift the game to later tonight.

The club for their part are keen to avoid a repeat and have added measures to ensure it stays so. Both players and staff are privy to the organization’s preparations for tonight.

United fans came out in force against the Glazers

The playing squad have been sworn to secrecy while staff have been handed information only on a need to know basis. It has been done so to minimize leaks and ensure fewer organizational concerns.

It is not the first time that this has happened. In fact, United’s departure time to Roma last week was kept a secret amidst concerns that fans would sabotage the team bus en route to the airport.

The players stayed at home before our game against Leicester and were only told on Monday night to meet at the training ground before travelling to Old Trafford. Usually, they spend the night before home games at the Lowry Hotel.

Strength in numbers?

Little is set to change today, especially in the wake of more protests being planned. United have also built a 10-foot wall and have installed steel barriers outside Old Trafford.

Police and steward presence was enhanced for the game against Leicester and more of the same can be expected tonight. It promises to be charged affair on and off the field.

There is little doubt that the fans’ storming of the pitch has added an unnecessary narrative of violence to the whole incident.

While the supporters remain committed to wresting control of their club back, they will hopefully avoid any unsavoury incidents that will reflect poorly on the movement.
