Solskjaer compares Edinson Cavani to Manchester United great Ryan Giggs
According to the Express, Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has compared Edinson Cavani to legendary Welsh winger Ryan Giggs.
The Welshman was a wizard on the pitch and remains one of the finest players to represent the club in our long and storied history. The fact that Cavani after just a year has been compared to him, speaks volumes of the impact he has had.
The 34-year-old has now scored seven goals from his last six appearances in all competitions. This has boosted United hopes of not just finishing second in the Premier League but also securing the Europa League title.
The Uruguayan’s contract is, however, winding down and he will need to make a decision sooner or later. Solskjaer, for his part, is keen to see Cavani stay at the club for another season.
He believes Cavani still has much to offer both on the field and off it. A glorified veteran, the Uruguayan’s lessons will not be lost on the younger players in the United squad.
Just as players in the past picked up lessons from Giggs, Cavani could be set to play a similar role provided he stays.
“We also had Ryan Giggs playing at the age he played – and his teammates picked up something from him.
“Edinson is like that as well. He is 34. He lives his life absolutely like a top professional, and I’m so pleased to have him in this squad.”
A peerless player!
Solskjaer has praised his striker’s professionalism and preparedness. Not that he needs to considering how Cavani continues to defy his age when he takes to the pitch.
“His preparation and focus and concentration and professionalism is something that everyone understands and they see it every day.”
One of Europe’s finest strikers in the last decade, the Uruguayan has a wealth of experience and success that is unparalleled. Having such a player educate the upcoming stars at United is worth it’s price in gold.
“Hopefully we can see him here again next year.”
