Fans react as Manchester United qualify for the Europa League final despite loss
Coming into the game with a 6-2 win from the semi-final first leg over AS Roma, Manchester United already had a foot through the door to the final and things got even better for them with Edinson Cavani scoring in the first period.
However, Roma mounted a spirited comeback after the half-time break as Edin Dzeko and Bryan Cristante each scored in a space of three minutes to make it 2-1 on the night and 7-4 on aggregate.
The Giallorossi spurred on by the two goals kept hitting Manchester United with attack after attack as David de Gea made three stunning stops to keep his team’s advantage intact.
Cavani then managed to ease some nerves, heading in a Bruno Fernandes’ cross in the 68th minute. The hosts, though, kept coming at the Red Devils and managed to score a third through Nicola Zalewski in the 83rd minute.
Nevertheless, the cushion from the first leg was enough to see out 8-5 win on aggregate. It was a disastrous display defensively and we will need to be a lot better if we are to lift the trophy in Gdansk later this month.
Fans were far from pleased from the performance even though the team ended their semi-final hoodoo under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Here are some of the reactions from the supporters following the game.
