Manchester United News: Solskjaer reveals that the Glazers apologized to him for ESL fiasco
According to The Athletic (Subscription Required), Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that he received a personal apology from the Glazers regarding the European Super League fiasco.
The Red Devils were among the six English clubs who committed to the breakaway league last month. It was met with widespread condemnation, forcing all six of them to withdraw from it eventually.
While Joel Glazer did pen an open letter to the fans in the aftermath, we are yet to see any of the Glazers address the issue in person.
Speaking ahead of his side’s Europa League semi-final against Roma on Thursday, Solskjaer revealed that he is in communication with the owners, who have apologized to him for the mess.
“I have been communicating with the owners and got an apology personally.”
While it is good to know that Solskjaer has an open line of communication with the owners, it begs the question as to why this apology was more guarded rather than public.
The least the Glazers could have done is come forward and admit to the fans that they were wrong, before offering an apology. Solskjaer is not a manager who often risks confrontation and it is debatable if there was an apology or it is an attempt to stem tensions.
After all, this comes just a day after Avram Glazer even refused to talk to a Sky Sports reporter regarding the ESL. Whether Solskjaer’s admission is damage limitation remains to be seen.

The ESL is just the latest point of contention between the fans and the Glazers since they took control of the club in 2005. Protests against the Americans have been ramped up in recent weeks, with a pitch invasion at Old Trafford postponing last weekend’s game against Liverpool.
