Bruno Fernandes targetting long term success with Manchester United
According to Sky Sports, Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has admitted that he will not be happy with just winning the Europa League.
The Red Devils have a healthy first-leg lead ahead of their semi-final second leg against AS Roma later today. A 6-2 hammering at Old Trafford puts United in an excellent position to make the final against either Arsenal or Villarreal.
Having lost out at the last-four stage last season, progress to the final constitutes an improvement, let alone winning it.
“It is a signal of improvement if we win the Europa League, because last season we didn’t win anything.”
Fernandes was one of the star players from the first leg, scoring twice and assisting two on the night. He now has his sights set on winning the tournament. However, he admits it will not be enough.
“If we win a trophy this season it is an improvement – but still not enough for us.”
Winning the Europa League can be a sign of better things to come at Old Trafford. Not only will it bring to an end a four-year wait for a trophy but also fill Solskjaer’s young side with confidence moving forward.
“Honestly, for me when you play a club like this your standard has to be high.”
High standards!
Fernandes holds himself up to high standards and believes his performance against Roma was not his best. The midfielder is keen to do even better and it is exciting to see him full of drive to improve.
However, his focus remains on the team emerging victorious. Hopefully, we will have something to celebrate at the end of the season.
“The most important for me is the way we win and we are closer to getting the trophy.”
