Thierry Henry keen for Manchester United legend Eric Cantona to be inducted in the PL Hall of Fame
Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t The Daily Mail), Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has heaped massive praise on former Manchester United star Eric Cantona.
The Frenchman spent just five seasons at Old Trafford. However, the iconic No.7 left behind a legacy of success on the pitch and a cult status off it.
Cantona’s rise came just as Henry was making his way up the ranks at Monaco. He has now revealed that the United star served as an inspiration to him.
“A French guy that goes and plays for Manchester United and your nickname is The King, when you know the history of the club? I was like, “wow, I want some of that.”
It is fair to say that Cantona is responsible for helping attract an influx of French players who will follow in his footsteps and move to England.
“When he went there, we started to think “wow, what a league”. Fans, atmosphere, Cantona.”
It is fair to say that Henry fulfilled that ambition and then some. Alongside Alan Shearer, he became an original inductee into the Premier League Hall of Fame.
However, if Henry has his way, Cantona will soon be rubbing shoulders with him among the elites. He has given his vote of assent for Cantona to be among the next inductees to the Hall of Fame.
A short but lasting legacy!
Cantona made 180 appearances for United, scoring 81 goals and assisting 62. During that time, he also won four Premier League titles in his five years at the club. (h/t Transfermarkt)
The Frenchman was an original inductee to the English Football Hall of Fame in 2002. Henry was added to the list in 2008.

Others on the list include Roy Keane, David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Andy Cole, Rio Ferdinand, Peter Schmeichel, Robin Van Persie, Nemanja Vidic and Michael Owen have all made the cut.
