What is happening? Another Super League is already being proposed after the collapse of the original, but this time it would involve the big guns from Scotland, Celtic and Rangers, joining UK clubs either in the Premiership or in a British Super League.
Quite how this improves the quality of the game is not clear, but a move for these 2 clubs to the Premier League is not fresh news, while also not a bad idea. Bringing the 2 clubs into British football is something that really needed to happen 10 years ago, but the issue here is that the teams surely cannot earn a place in the Premier League at the expense of 2 current clubs.
The only other option is extending the league to 22 teams would require 4 additional games per team per year, which very few clubs – aside the oil rich Manchester City and its in-depth squad – could handle. It is another bizarre suggestion and so soon after the Super League debacle is really not the right time to be bringing this up!
