Solskjaer remains upbeat despite Manchester United drawing 0-0 with Leeds United
Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t The Independent), Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has claimed that he believes the goalless draw against Leeds United will have no greater bearing in the grand scheme of the season.
The arch rivals faced off in what is the weekend’s standout Premier League clash at Elland Road. What followed was a performance that lacked the attacking nous both sides are known for.
United’s dip in performance has also seen us drop two points in what is already a ‘as good as done’ title race. Manchester City could now wrap up the title as early as next week.
However, the Red Devils still have an excellent chance of winning the Europa League. Given that the semifinal first leg against AS Roma is up next, this dip in form has come at the worst moment.
Solskjaer, however, believes otherwise. He believes it isn’t the start of a slump and that United did well to stymie a fluid Leeds attack. Marcelo Bielsa’s side have caused a number of teams problems this season, but United held their own.
“When two teams meet you create problems, solve problems. We put a really big shift down and second half we’ve seen Leeds run over teams – it was the opposite for us.”
It was, however, a two-way street and United too failed to really get going. The Leeds defence was not troubled much and dealt with what was thrown their way with ease.
We move on!
While Solskjaer is disappointed at not being able to win the game, he isn’t going to spend sleepless nights pondering over the result.
“You’re disappointed you don’t get three points but the boys put a shift down, we have a lot of respect for the way Leeds play. This is not going to be something we look back and [it] derails our season.”
Roma will present a bigger challenge and United will do well to turn up for the game. Having fallen at the semifinal stage last season, a repeat could undo a lot of the good work done this season.

The biggest talking point of the game, however, occurred away from the pitch. United fan groups had a plane fly an anti-Glazer banner over Elland Road as protests against the owners has stepped up.
