Raphael Varane keen to move to Manchester United despite PSG interest
According to Spanish publication AS (h/t The Metro), Manchester United have been given a massive boost in their pursuit of Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane.
The 27-year-old is set to enter the final year of his contract and has not yet agreed on fresh terms with Real. This has prompted club president Florentino Perez to open the door for a potential exit.
United have followed the Frenchman with much interest since his time at Metz. It would appear that he too is keen on a move to Old Trafford.
One of the best players in the world in his position, Varane is not short of suitors. This includes Paris Saint-Germain, the top team from the 27-year-old’s home nation.
Madrid are hopeful that Varane will renew his contract. The Spanish giants are aware that they will need to sell players in order to fund big-money signings this summer. With him capable of moving on for free next year, they have a huge decision to make regarding the French international.
Pacy and solid in the air, Varane is the complete package. Moreover, his experience in winning the biggest trophies would be a welcome addition to the United squad.
A close call!
United came very close to signing Varane back in 2011. The Red Devils were working on the finer details of his contract while Zinedine Zidane swooped in to sign him for Real.
Varane was a boyhood United fan who grew up idolizing Rio Ferdinand. The Englishman was one of the finest defenders to grace the Premier League and how we could have done with him now. (h/t Manchester Evening News)
In Varane, we might just have the next best thing. Whether we can however close a deal remains to be seen.

Varane has so far made 355 appearances for Los Blancos. He was also a part of the French team that won the 2018 FIFA World Cup. A proven winner, his experience and know-how would be huge assets to a young United squad.
