Borussia Dortmund to battle Manchester United for Andre Silva
According to German publication Bild, Borussia Dortmund have entered the race for Manchester United target Andre Silva.
The Eintracht Frankfurt striker is enjoying a scintillating season in the Bundesliga. With 23 goals and seven assists in just 27 Bundesliga appearances, he is spearheading the German side’s bid for a top-four finish. (h/t Transfermarkt)
As per the report, he is expected to leave Frankfurt in the summer. However, where he ends up is far from certain.
United are in the market for a striker in the upcoming summer. With Edinson Cavani having made up his mind to move, the need for the Red Devils to bring in someone new has gotten more urgent.
While Erling Haaland remains our top target, competition for the Norwegian is high with some of the continent’s top sides in the fray. That is even before taking into consideration Borussia Dortmund’s massive asking price of around £150m.
Unfortunately for us, even if we miss out on Haaland, the road to sign Silva will not be easy. This is because Dortmund are keen to replace the Norwegian with the Frankfurt ace if he is to leave the clyb this summer.
He who acts first wins?
Atletico Madrid is also in the race to sign the player. However, their financial difficulties may prevent them from making an acceptable offer.
The report goes on to add that Frankfurt is willing to let go of their star man for €40m. A drop in the ocean compared to what it will take to sign Haaland.
A prolific scorer, Silva has two years left on his deal. The potential return of Luka Jovic could see Frankfurt hope to raise funds by selling Silva. However, whether this will work out to our advantage remains to be seen.

Interestingly, Silva has the same number of Bundesliga goals as the higher-rated Haaland. Moreover, given his asking price, the Portuguese striker would be well worth the investment if United decide to go ahead with it.
