Man United star names Red Devils teammate as the best talent to emerge in a decade

Manchester United star Scott McTominay heaps praise on generational talent Mason Greenwood

According to The Mirror, Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has lavished praise on teammate and fellow academy graduate Mason Greenwood.

The young attacker scored twice yesterday night to ensure Manchester United took all three points against Burnley. The win takes us to within eight points of Manchester City, keeping our faint hopes of a Premier League title alive.

The brace took Greenwood’s tally for the season to nine in 44 appearances. Five of these strikes have come in the last six games as the young Englishman continues to find form at the right time.

“He’s a talent that comes along probably every 10 years – but I’d probably say longer.”

Greenwood has left a lasting impression on McTominay, who holds his teammate to high standards. He went on to reveal that the senior stars at the club are committed to ensuring Greenwood realises his potential.

“For the senior lads, it’s keeping his head down and focused every single game and in training, not letting him get distracted by other things that are going on.”

The 19-year-old has failed to hit the same heights as last season. But there is still enough time for him to make a difference this term. Whether he can be the difference-maker for us remains to be seen.

In the right hands?

McTominay believes Greenwood is starting to find goals on a regular basis at the right time. He hopes the 19-year-old will continue to improve and evolve into a leading player.

In Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Greenwood appears to have a manager keen to get the best out of him. In fact, leading up to the Burnley clash, the Norwegian had revealed that Greenwood has what it takes to become United’s number nine.

Despite his age, Greenwood has already made 97 appearances for United across all competitions. During this time he has scored 26 goals and assisted 10 more. (h/t Transfermarkt)

With Anthony Martial out injured and the likes of Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford nursing knocks, the Red Devils needed someone to step up and be counted. If the clash against Burnley is anything to go by, Greenwood is just that man.
