Man United on alert as World Cup winning veteran opens the door for summer move

Transfer News: Manchester United on alert as Thomas Muller makes Bayern Munich exit admission

Speaking to the Daily Star, Thomas Muller has put Manchester United on alert after admitting that he could leave Bayern Munich.

The German international has been a critical cog in Bayern’s championship-winning sides of the last decade. He also played a major role in Germany’s 2014 World Cup win where he won the Silver Ball and Silver Boot awards.

Now 31, he appears to have indicated that he could be set to call time on his stint at Bayern.

“I’m not fixed to this club.”

This will come as music to the ears of Manchester United, who have been ardent admirers of the player for years. Former boss Louis van Gaal was keen to bring Muller to Old Trafford in 2014 but was unable to do so.

Having won all he could with Bayern, it remains to be seen if Muller fancies a new challenge. The idea of helping United get back to the top would write a new chapter in his fantastic career.

Signing Muller would help United shift Mason Greenwood to a central role. The German is adept at playing on the wings and would give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s attack a major boost in terms of ability and experience.

Despite his age, Muller continues to rack up the numbers for Bayern. He has so far made 36 appearances for Die Roten this season, scoring 13 goals and assisting 17. (h/t Transfermarkt)

However, it does not necessarily guarantee he will raech the same levels in England. Bastian Schweinsteiger struggled at Old Trafford while Thiago Alcantara has failed to hit his same heights at Liverpool.

Muller is a dream signing but it can be argued that United have come late to the party. He is nearing the end of his prime and the club are better off looking to bring in someone better and with room for further improvement.
