Roy Keane tells Harry Kane to leave Tottenham Hotspur as Manchester United links continue

Speaking to ITV (h/t The Sun) after England beat Albania on Sunday, Manchester United legend Roy Keane stated that Harry Kane should leave Tottenham Hotspur if he really wanted to win silverware.

The striker has been linked with a move to United and Real Madrid recently and is valued at around £150million by his side. He has spent his entire career on Spurs’ books but is yet to win a single trophy.

And the 27-year-old does not look like he will any with Spurs anytime soon. Tottenham’s only hope of silverware comes in the Carabao Cup final this season when they take on Manchester City, who are themselves interested in a move for the Englishman.

Keane thinks that the striker would cement himself as one of the world’s best if he plays for a team that is regularly among trophies. His contract runs until 2024 but the Irish pundit doesn’t think it matters.

“If you’re in his shoes and it comes to the summer, I think the guy has to move on to really win the big prizes. He’s not going to do it at Tottenham. He wouldn’t be the first player to sign a contract and then want to leave a year or so later.”

A smart move for all parties

The former United captain downplayed Jose Mourinho’s chances of making the top 4 this year. And his comments make sense because Spurs are not a team that have looked like winning trophies in the past decade.

Their last trophy was in 2008 while United, despite their mild decline after the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, have been challenging for the big titles on a regular basis.

And United would really benefit from having someone as lethal as Kane up front. He is arguably at his peak right now and a move to United would undoubtedly bridge the gap between ‘contenders’ and ‘champions’.
