Transfer News: Manchester United boost as Pau Torres sets his sights on the Premier League

According to transfer news from MEN, Manchester United have received a boost in their pursuit of Pau Torres. The Villarreal defender is said to be keen on a move to England.

The 24-year-old has emerged as one of the transfer targets for Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Even Real Madrid are said to be after Torres. Over the last few months, several centre-backs such as Raphael Varane and Jules Kounde have emerged on Manchester United’s radar.

December 29, 2020, Sevilla, SPAIN: Pau Torres of Villarreal during the spanish league, La Liga, football match played between Sevilla FC and Villarreal CF at Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium in Sevilla, Spain.

The general feeling is that the club are looking at a long-term partner for Harry Maguire. The fact that Torres is left-footed also appeals to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is keen on someone like that so that Maguire can be played on the right.

Pau Torres has a €60million release clause in his current contract that runs until 2024. Nonetheless, the Spanish side are likely to be open to a player plus cash deal for Torres in case the release clause isn’t feasible for the clubs interested. There are a host of clubs interested in the Spaniard.

Manchester City are one of the Premier League clubs after him while there have also been talks of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich keeping tabs on him.

There is clearly a need for another new centre-back to partner Maguire, with Lindelof underwhelming and Eric Bailly being injury prone. Pau Torres could represent a significant and useful bit of investment for us in that regard.
