Manchester United News: England boss Gareth Southgate speaks out on Marcus Rashford
According to news from Evening Standard, England boss Gareth Southgate has hailed Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford for his commitment to England. However, he has reminded Rashford that competition for places is high in the national side.
The Manchester United star was called up to the England squad for the WC Qualifiers despite being injured. Rashford was hooked off at half-time against AC Milan last week and played no part against Leicester at the weekend.
While he was expected to play a part for England in their WC Qualifiers, it looks like that he will not be fit in time to do so. It was confirmed that he would miss the first game against San Marino and now he might just be ruled out of the remaining two games too.
If he were to miss these games, Rashford will have featured in just two of the 11 games England have played. He was also ruled out with a shoulder issue last November when England played. Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate talked about the issue and even though he hailed Rashford for sticking with the side, he did say there are more players waiting to grab the chance.
“It’s of course frustrating for him and us that he’s not been able to play as much as any of us would like in the last 12 months. There’s nothing we can do about that.
His goals record for us is good, his goals record for his club is good, so we know what he’s capable of. And equally we know there are some very good players emerging in those areas of the pitch as well. There are opportunities for everybody.

England are scheduled to get the WC Qualification underway against San Marino and then face Albania and Poland. With Rashford out, Southgate will have to call on someone else to fill the gap. It is a little bit concerning that Rashford is still out with injury, especially with the last lap of the season to go and then the Euros to follow.
