Transfer News: Manchester United dealt a major blow in Erling Haaland pursuit

According to latest news from Spanish transfer expert Eduardo Inda (h/t Express), Manchester United have been dealt a major blow in the race for Erling Haaland, who is now nearing a move to Real Madrid.

Haaland, 20, has been one of the most prolific goalscorers in all of Europe over the past year-and-a-half. Since joining Borussia Dortmund in January last year, the Norwegian has plundered 49 goals in 49 games, putting clubs across Europe on notice.

Manchester United, who missed out landing Haaland before he signed for Dortmund, have once again been hot on the trails of the striker. And understandably so, considering the dire situation in front of goal currently at Old Trafford.

Anthony Martial has been back to his inconsistent ways again while Edinson Cavani has had fitness issues, which were always expected when he arrived last summer. With Mason Greenwood also not hitting the heights of last season, United have been devoid of a prolific goalscorer this season.

That is something that the club hoped to address with the signing of Haaland in the summer. However, that may not be possible now as Real Madrid seem poised to beat Manchester United for the transfer of Haaland.

As per the report, Haaland’s move to Real Madrid is ‘practically completed’ with Eduardo Inda claiming that Florentino Perez’s relationship with Dortmund helped clinch the deal.

“Haaland’s signing for Madrid is practically done. It is closer than it seems. One of the keys is Florentino’s great harmony with the president of Dortmund, who are contemporary and get along very well.

“The negotiation with Raiola is being carried out by Jose Angel Sanchez and the agreement with the footballer is closed.”
