Transfer News: Manchester United to battle Tottenham for Vedat Muriqi
Italian news outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi has claimed that Manchester United are one of three Premier League sides in the fray for Napoli striker Vedat Muriqi in the summer transfer window.
The 26-year-old Kosovan international made a name for himself at Fenerbahce before moving to Lazio last summer. With just two goals and one assist in 24 games, it is fair to say that he has failed to live up to expectations. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Despite his poor form, three Premier League sides are currently monitoring his progress. The other two teams are Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley.
Muriqi is a physically imposing centre-forward who can hold the ball up well and bring his teammates into play. He is also a force to reckon with in the air while also being able to make through balls apart from finishing.
All this has led to suggestions that he could thrive in the more contact heavy form of the sport in England.
It is not the first time that the Red Devils have been linked with the striker. We have been aware of his exploits from when he was at Fenerhance.
United lack a dependable No.9 who can score goals for them on a consistent basis. Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood have struggled, leaving the burden of scoring on Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford.
While Edinson Cavani has been decent, his injuries have shown that age is catching up with him. He has so far missed 13 games due to injuries this season.

Muriqi has been capped by Kosovo 26 times. He has so far scored 10 goals for the national side.
An under the radar signing, Muriqi could turn out to be a shrewd acquisition. However, he has already shown at Lazio that a step up to the top level may not be his cup of tea.
He is by no means a guaranteed success and any move for him would be a gamble. United right now lack a dependable scorer and we are better bringing in someone who can guarantee goals.
