Transfer News: Manchester United make Hakan Calhanoglu bid
According to Italian transfer news outlet CalcioMercato Manchester United have made a bid for AC Milan star Hakan Calhanoglu.
The Turkish international is in the final few months of his contract at the San Siro. While the Rossoneri are keen to keep the player, there has been no breakthrough in negotiations.
The major point of contention continues to be the financial outlay offered by Milan. Calhanoglu currently earns €3.2m per year and is keen to see it rise to €4.5m per annum in his new terms.
The Italians however have offered just €3.5m, an amount that is some way off Calhanoglu’s expectations. As things stand both parties will now need to come to a compromise. Who blinks first remains to be seen.
This standoff has afforded other teams an opportunity to get their bids in. As per the report, United, Napoli and an unnamed Italian club have done just that.
Calhanoglu staying in Milan is not off the table just yet. New meetings between the playmaker’s representatives and the Milan hierarchy are expected to take place soon to find an accord.
Calhanoglu was seen as a viable backup for star midfielder Bruno Fernandes last summer. While it is debatable if he will challenge for a regular starting spot, the 27-year-old will at least add strength in depth.
Add to it his versatility and ability on the dead-ball, he could prove to be a very shrewd buy for United.
