Boca Juniors dream of completing a transfer for Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani
A report by Argentinian news outlet Infobae states that Boca Juniors chief, Juan Roman Riquelme, maintains ‘direct contact’ with Manchester United striker, Edinson Cavani, over a potential transfer.
The club is preparing for the arrival of Uruguayan international. Cavani joined Manchester United from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer just last summer.
And his contract at the club is already about to get over as it expires in the summer. Boca are aware of this and want to bring the former Napoli striker to the shores of Buenos Aires.
Earlier, Cavani’s father admitted that his son wants to return to South America to be closer to his family, and that he wished to play for the Azul y Oro.
Cavani to Argentina?
In that sense, Boca are the favourites to land the 34-year-old if he leaves Old Trafford in the summer. And in a further boost for the club, they have spaces freeing up in their team for non-EU players.
Their 24-year-old midfielder, Jorman Campuzano, has completed two years of uninterrupted residence on national soil and is in place to receive dual citizenship. The Xeneizes would reduce one player from their quota of 4 non-EU players.
Nevertheless, the AFA and the professional league allow a team to have up to 6 of such players. It now seems that Cavani to Boca can slowly become a reality, with the club eager to land the striker.
The Uruguayan international has featured in 25 games in all competitions for United this season and has 7 goals in that time.
