Transfer News: Manchester United star Edinson Cavani could be set for Danubio return

Another day, another piece of transfer news that casts doubt on the future of Edinson Cavani at Manchester United.

The 34-year-old joined the club last summer on an initial one-year deal. While the club does have the option of extending it by another year, they have so far not been forthcoming.

The veteran striker returned to training earlier this week, raising hopes of being available for the do or die clash at Milan. Unfortunately, he picked up a late knock and had to drop out of the 21-man squad.

Rumours have been abounding the last few weeks regarding Cavani’s potential return to Boca Juniors. As things stand, the Argentine giants are not the only South American side keen on signing the player.

According to Pasion Futbol, Cavani’s former side Danubio have now entered the race to land the player. The striker came through the youth ranks at Danubio before making his bow in senior football.

He spent two years at the club before moving to Europe with Italian side Palermo. The rest as they say is history.

Cavani is one of United’s top earners and earns a significant £210,000 per week. Danubio have now been given some financial backing, boosting their hopes of being able to afford the veteran ace.

The report, however, fails to go into specifics and for now, these rumours can be taken with a pinch of salt. A return to the club where it all started for him will bring his career to a full circle.
