Amad Diallo was on his way to Parma before Manchester United swooped in
There was much hype surrounding the arrival of Amad Diallo at Manchester United earlier this year. After all, it is not every day that a player is compared to both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
As things stand, it would appear we weren’t the only ones aware of Diallo’s potential. According to the Express, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the 18-year-old was close to joining Parma before United swooped in.
Set to cost United upto £37m with add-ons, Diallo was a significant investment with the future in mind. So far, he has done well to raise expectations at the Theatre of Dreams.
The youngster impressed for the club’s Under-23s before being handed his debut against Real Sociedad in the Europa League. He also impressed earlier this week when he scored against AC Milan. It was his first senior goal for United and hopefully the first of many.
The move to Old Trafford was a dream come true for the player who had been buzzing since. Rather than rest on his laurels, Diallo has to his credit impressed.
Parma for their part knows they missed out on a gem of a player. Speaking to Sky Italia (h/t Express), sporting director Alessandro Lucarelli admitted his disappointment at the collapse of a deal for Amad.
“We had the agreement and then the negotiation with Manchester United started and they sold him.”
Alongside the likes of Hannibal Mejbri, Shola Shoretire and Facundo Pellistri among others, Diallo is a core of young players coming through at the club.
