West Ham United keen to secure the future of Manchester United target Tomas Soucek
According to Football Insider, Manchester United could be handed a blow in their pursuit of West Ham star Tomas Soucek.
The 26-year-old is one of the key driving figures behind West Ham United’s surprise challenge for a top-four finish. He has so far made 30 appearances and has scored 8 goals this season.
An impressive statistic for a defensive midfielder. His impressive 6’2″ frame also makes him a force to reckon with during set-pieces. (h/t Transfermarkt)
With more clubs starting to take note of the player’s progress, the Hammers are keen to secure his long-term future. They are now set to ramp up efforts to tie the player down to a new deal.
Currently earning between £40,000-£50,000-a-week Soucek is not amongst the top earners at West Ham. An extension to his current deal that runs until 2024 will include a pay rise that is more in line with his contributions.
With Paul Pogba and Juan Mata both likely to leave the club in the summer, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will potentially need to reinforce his midfield.
Moreover, Nemanja Matic is not getting any younger and will need to be replaced sooner or later. In Soucek, Solskjaer will have a dynamic player who has already proven himself in the Premier League.
Throwback to a cult hero but better
Soucek’s physique and style is reminiscent of a former United cult hero, Marouane Fellaini. The Belgian ace was brought in by David Moyes and was used as a battering ram by Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho.
However, the West Ham star is technically more adept and will offer as much quality on the ball as off it.

While Bruno Fernandes has been United’s creative spark in midfield, Paul Pogba’s absence has showcased a lack of runners in the squad. In Soucek, United will have an excellent candidate to fulfil the box-to-box midfielder’s role. Whether it will come to fruition remains to be seen.
