Lee Sharpe believes Solskjaer is out of his depth at Manchester United

According to SportsMole, former Manchester United striker Lee Sharpe feels Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is “a little bit out of his depth” at the club.

While United have enjoyed a good season so far, their mini blip in recent times has seen them fall 14 points behind Manchester City and very likely concede a possible title challenge.

With their latest draw against Crystal Palace, United have now won only one game in their last five. Draws against Chelsea, West Brom and Everton have not helped Solskjaer’s cause in a season where they held top place for a while and looked like title challengers.

Sharpe, who won three league titles at United feels that perhaps Solskjaer is not the right man to take the club back to the top and win trophies.

“I have to say I’ve never really thought Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was the right man for the Manchester United job. Yes, he’s done a good job, but I think he’s done as well as he can do, to be honest.

The board have backed him, they’ve given him money to spend, but he’d never have been my first choice, purely because of that lack of experience.

If you look at his experience of the Premier League, he managed Cardiff – then he went to Molde in Norway for a little bit. So to then come in to one of the biggest clubs in the world off the back of that record, I think he’s a little bit out of his depth.”

It makes sense as to what Sharpe is trying to say. Quite often it has felt as if Solskjaer got the job on a permanent basis due to his prior association with the club as player and youth coach. He lacks the necessary experience and managerial nous that one associate with top-level managers.

The likes of Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp and even Thomas Tuchel, come with bags of experience managing the biggest of teams in Europe. They also have trophies to back that up. It does get harder to defend Solskjaer without any tangible result from his management like trophies.

Yes, he has done good work and this is a work in progress but how long can Manchester United really wait and give Solskjaer the rope. They look highly unlikely to end their league and trophy drought any time soon.
