Team News: Manchester United could be without three first-team stars vs City

Team News: According to the club’s official site, Manchester United could be set to face Manchester City without three first-team stars this weekend.

The top of the table clash is the standout fixture of the weekend. A win would rekindle our hopes of usurping Pep Guardiola’s side while a loss could effectively end the title race.

The Red Devils will have to face an inform City side sans three first-team stars, namely Anthony Martial, Donny van de Beek and David de Gea.

David de Gea and Anthony Martial are both a doubt to feature against Manchester City

All three players also missed our midweek stalemate against Crystal Palace. Martial was injured in training on Monday while De Gea is set to miss the next few games due to personal concerns.

Van de Beek has not played for us since Valentine’s day and looks set to miss out once again. He was curiously on the bench last weekend.

Already ruled out

The trio will join Phil Jones, Juan Mata and Paul Pogba on the sidelines. Add to it the fact that Marcus Rashford is not playing at 100%, Solskjaer will go into the game handicapped.

City, meanwhile, have a full-strength squad to choose from and also come into the game in top form. They are currently on a 21-game winning streak and United will need to snap that streak if they are serious about challenging for the top.

It promises to be an intriguing contest and the players at Solskjaer’s disposal will need to step up and earn their pay.

United have failed to score in their last three games and will need to snap that streak this weekend. With Martial out and Rashford struggling, the onus will once again fall on Bruno Fernandes and Edinson Cavani.

Whether they can rise to the occassion remains to be seen.
