Marcos Rojo rejected multiple offers while at Manchester United to force Boca Juniors switch
According to Sport Witness, former Manchester United star Marcos Rojo held out in order to force through a move to Boca Juniors in February.
The 30-year-old had fallen down the pecking order ar Old Trafford in recent seasons. With just months left on his contract, United were keen to sell him but were unable to do so.
If journalist Cesar Luis Merlo is to be believed, the defender too has to take some blame for the failed transfers.
Getafe, Rennes and Cruz Azul were all interested in Rojo, with the latter two even willing to pay a transfer fee to obtain him. Such a deal would have benefitted United financially.
The player, meanwhile, rejected all the approaches to enforce an agreement he had with United. According to it, he could leave the club for free in February in case he wasn’t sold in January.
That is exactly what happened as Rojo eventually moved to Boca Juniors for nothing. The player was keen to move back to Argentina and has cost United money in the process.
While it is unknown as to how much was offered, it surely beats the prospect of having to lose a full international for free.
Rojo’s time at United was clearly drawing to a close. He was out of favour and the writing was on the wall for some time now. Currently injured, he is still waiting to make his Boca debut.

Brought to Old Trafford by Louis van Gaal in 2014, the 30-year-old made 122 appearances for the club in his six-and-a-half-year stay.
The defender signed his last contract in 2018 but had since been a largely peripheral figure. He fell out of favour with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and started just five Premier League games under the Norwegian.
