Man United to battle Italian threat to land Icelandic wonderkid Isak Johannesson

Isak Bergmann Johannesson dreams of playing for Manchester United

According to FC Inter 1908, Manchester United will have to beat off interest from Serie A to land Isak Bergmann Johannesson.

The 17-year-old is a central midfielder also capable of doing a job on the wingers. Despite his tender years, he is a regular for Swedish side IFK Norrkoping. He has made 33 appearances for the Swedes, scoring four goals and assisting 12. (h/t Transfermarkt)

The youngster made his professional debut for Icelandic outfit IA in 2018. He has also been capped at the Under-21 level for Sweden.

His performances have also caught the attention of Italian giants Inter Milan and Juventus. While a move to Italy will do him good, Johannesson has already confirmed the admiration he has for United.

The Red Devils have brought in a number of talented youngsters in recent windows. Given their chase of the best young talents in world football, interest in Johannesson will come as no surprise.

Johannesson has strong links with England. He was born in the country during his father, Joey Gudjonsson’s stint for Aston Villa in 2003.

Gudjonsson also played for Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leicester City, Burnley and Huddersfield Town in England, while his father, Gudjon Thordarson, managed Stoke City, Barnsley, Notts County, and Crewe Alexandria.

Despite being just 17, the youngster currently averages close to one goal contribution every two games for IFK Norrkoping. He will only get better with age and could bloom into something truly special.

United currently lack attacking impetus from midfield and are overtly reliant on Bruno Fernandes for the same. While Johannesson cannot be expected to perform off the bat, he could very well be nurtured as a future star at Carrington.
