Joe Cole urges Jesse Lingard to quit Manchester United
Speaking to BT Sport (h/t Metro), former Chelsea and England star Joe Cole has given his two cents regarding Manchester United loanee Jesse Lingard.
The 28-year-old endured as difficult first half of the season at Old Trafford. He barely featured and was largely a peripheral figure.
The same cannot be said of his time so far at West Ham United. Managed by former United boss David Moyes, the Hammers secured Lingard on loan just last January. He has since added a new dimension to their attack.
Lingard has so far made five appearances for West Ham. During this time he has scored three goals and made two assists. He was once again in the thick of action yesterday as Manchester City narrowly triumphed 2-1 over the Londoners. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Cole revealed that he is a fan of Lingard while also admitting that the 28-year-old had lost his way in recent months. While Ole Gunnar Solskajer has to take some of the fault, Lingard is now thriving elsewhere.
“Some fault will go to the managers not fancying him but this is what he brings to this club.”
“He’s at the right club.”
The right player at the right club!
Cole went as far as to compare Lingard to Phil Foden, while alluding to him getting the adoration he will get at West Ham. Unlike at United where he will be just another bit-part player, he could thrive under Moyes in London.
“He’s found a club where they’ll love a player like him – hard-working, hustle and bustle, but also with quality and the ability.”
Cole believes Moyes will relish getting the best out of Lingard and he could be the part of something special at West Ham. As things stand, there is no reason why the Hammers could pass on an opportunity to land the United loanee.
“He’ll come and do his job and that will make West Ham want to buy him, I’m pretty sure.”

Cole is not the only former player urging Lingard to leave the Theatre of Dreams. United legend Rio Ferdinand too feels the same.
Lingard has done well to resurrect his career and at 28, is in his prime. With United unlikely to miss him, the Englishman should be afforded the opportunity to succeed elsewhere.
