According to Spanish publication AS, Manchester United have been given a boost in their efforts to land Real Madrid ace Raphael Varane.

The 27-year-old is one of the finest defenders in Europe and is currently in his prime. However, with just 18 months left on his current deal, Los Blancos will need to make a decision.

Varane is yet to commit his future and is dragging his feet regarding negotiations. He was on the verge of calling it quits in 2019, only for the return of Zinedine Zidane to make him change his decision.

With him soon set to enter the final year of his deal, Real are ready to listen to offers for the Frenchman. It bodes well for United who are in need of a centre-back.

Valued at €70m, Varane is a cheaper option compared to Sevilla’s Jules Kounde. The 22-year-old is valued at €90m and has garnered much interest from United.

The Frenchman is a seasoned performer who has won some of the biggest trophies in football. In him, United will be getting a truly world-class player who can slot right in.

United, however, do not have a clear run at the player. The likes of Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea are also interested in the Frenchman. (h/t The Sun)
