Team News: Solskjaer confirms this Manchester United trio will miss Real Sociedad clash
Speaking to the press (h/t The Independent), Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed as a part of team news that three first-team stars will miss tonight’s home clash against Real Sociedad.
The trio of Donny van de Beek, Edinson Cavani and Scott McTominay are all injured and will not play a part as the Spaniards visit Old Trafford. United already lead 4-0 from the first leg and should be expected to finish the job despite the injury setback.
Solskjaer confirmed that the Red Devils squad will be more or less the same as the one that took on Newcastle United at the weekend.
“It’ll be more or less the same squad that we had against Newcastle.”
United were between both Cavani and Van de Beek in the first leg. McTominay, despite being a doubt, started the game and lasted an hour before being taken off for Nemanja Matic.
Some good news
The midfielder did not feature against the Magpies and looks set to grace us with his absence once again. But it is not all bad news on the injury front.
French international Paul Pogba continues to recover from his injury. While he is still some way away from a return, the rehabilitation process is being sped up.
“Paul has been outside on the grass and is starting to step up his recovery but he’s not near the team for this game.”
Youngsters Amad Diallo and Shola Shoretire are both available. The duo made their first-team bows for United last week and could feature again this time around.
The same cannot be said of another promising youngster, Hannibal Mejbri. Solskjaer was also in no mood to reveal how he intends to use Diallo and Shoretire for the game.
“Amad and Shola will, of course, be involved. They are in the squad but I am not going to tell you if they are starting or not.”
