AC Milan unlikely to pursue a permanent deal for Manchester United outcast Diogo Dalot
According to Milan Live, AC Milan look increasingly unlikely to sign Diogo Dalot on a permanent deal from Manchester United.
The 21-year-old joined the Italian giants last summer on a season-long loan. He has since made 19 appearances for Rossoneri, scoring once and assisting twice. (h/t Transfermarkt)
While he has had opportunities, Dalot was ripped to shreds by an unforgiving Italian media. Various sources (h/t Daily Star), gave the defender a minimal rating for his role in the loss.
The Rossoneri remain unconvinced by the defender and his chances of making a permanent switch to the San Siro are close to zero.
Dalot has played all of Milan’s Europa League fixtures so far. However, he looks set to be dropped for Thursday’s fixture against Red Star Belgrade. Pierre Kalulu is set to start at right-back instead of the United star.
The player’s performance against Spezia has clearly rattled Milan, who are now less inclined about using him. While Dalot has been good in bursts, his inconsistency has been a major source of irritation for the Italian giants.
A lose-lose scenario?
Dalot is not the first-choice right-back at the San Siro. That distinction belongs to Davide Calabria. Things aren’t that different at United with both Aaron Wan-Bissaka and even Brandon Williams ahead of him in the pecking order.
A return to Old Trafford will do little to boost his chances of gaining regular game time. United are also in the market for a right-back and have looked at Max Aarons and Kieran Trippier so far. (h/t Express)
This would indicate that Dalot’s future does not lie in Manchester either.

One of Jose Mourinho’s final signings as United boss, Dalot was supposed to be a player for the future. But he has failed to live up to the billing and has been largely unimpressive.
At just 21, he has a number of years ahead of him and can go on to resurrect his career elsewhere. A fresh start would suit all parties involved.
