Steve Bruce delivers injury update ahead of Manchester United vs Newcastle

With Newcastle all set to face Manchester United over the weekend, Steve Bruce gave an update on his players’ injuries.

First and foremost, the trio of Callum Wilson, Fabian Schar and Javier Maquillo have all been ruled out after getting knocks in the Southampton game. Nonetheless, Bruce, the former Manchester United defender, was happy that there were no new injuries as such.

“They’re all going to be (out for) weeks, I don’t think we can put an exact timescale on it. Fabian Schär’s had his operation, Callum (Wilson) has a muscle injury so we have got to be patient and wait.

The one that looks better than most is (Javier) Manquillo. He twisted his ankle badly but is responding very well to his treatment.”

He updated the condition of Federico Fernandez who has been out since January, saying that he is back in training but the game against Man United could be too soon for him to make a return. But he is hoping that Fernandez will make it in time for the Wolves game a week later.

He was fully focused on what lay ahead after some important wins over Southampton and Everton and wanted to achieve a certain tally of points regardless of what the other sides are doing.
