Manchester United make an offer for Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane
According to Spanish outlet Diario Madridista, Manchester United and PSG have made an offer to Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane.
The 27-year-old has been at Madrid for about ten years now. During that time, he emerged as one of the best defenders in the world, leading Real to the Champions League and France to the World Cup.
Varane was on United’s radar even back then. However, he rejected a chance to move to Old Trafford after the Red Devils signed promising Englishman Phil Jones. (h/t Independent)

Ten years on, both players have taken different routes in their careers. While Jones could be on his way out next summer, Varane could be on his way to Old Trafford.
According to Sport via The Hard Tackle, the player is considering his future at the Santiago Bernabeu. Both United and PSG are leading the race to land the Frenchman.
Having won every conceivable major honour with Real, Varane is keen to embark on a new challenge. Given where United are at right now, Varane has the chance of being part of a resurgent Red Devils side if he so chooses.

While Harry Maguire remains United’s first-choice central defender, he lacks a dependable partner alongside him in defence. The likes of Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof have both struggled with form and fitness, while Jones has been off his best for some time now.
A pedigreed defender, Varane could make the ideal partner for Maguire.

Bringing in a dependable defender will put to rest a key spot of weakness in the United squad. At 27, Varane still has years to go in his peak and would be a worthwhile addition.
Having won it all in Spain, Varane can no embark upon a new adventure with a promising United side. Whether a deal can be agreed to remains to be seen.
