Manchester United leading the race for Nikola Milenkovic
According to La Reppublica via Calcio Mercato, Manchester United are leading the race to land Fiorentina ace Nikola Milenkovic.
With the player’s contract set to expire in 2022, La Viola will have a decision to make come this summer. Milenkovic has no shortage of suitors with the likes of AC Milan, Inter Milan, and Juventus all keen.
The 23-year-old has no intention of extending his contract at Fiorentina. The Italians could have no other option but to sell him come this summer.
Milenkovic is open to leaving Italy and could very well end up at Manchester United. The Red Devils are currently in pole position to land the Serbian.
Fiorentina have set an asking price of €35m that United are willing to pay. Building a solid defence should be on our list of objectives. Our attack cannot always be expected to bail us out of tight spots.
Two birds with one stone
The Serbian international is a dominating presence who stands tall at 1.95m. His versatility to also do a job at right-back further adds to his appeal.
United are keen to bring in a right-back to compete with Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Securing Milenkovic would see us shoot two birds with the same stone.
The 23-year-old is not the best defender in the league, far from it. He has however showcased enough promise to be moulded into a solid performer. Whether United feel they can do that remains to be seen.

The United defence has improved but is still short of a couple of key personnel. While Milenkovic may not be immediately expected to step up and become a regular, he could very well do so in the future.
He is also considerably cheaper than Jules Kounde and considerably attainable compared to Dayot Upamecano. Whether United decides to go for him remains to be seen.
