Manchester United youngster James Garner terminates spell at Watford and is set for a new loan deal
A report by Manchester Evening News claims that United midfielder James Garner is set to join Championship side, Nottingham Forest, on loan this month for the remainder of the season.
The 19-year-old was loaned to Watford last summer. He had a brilliant start to life in the Championship, as he played in all but one of their opening 19 league games.
However, things changed when the Hornets fired manager Vladimir Ivic and appointed Xisco Munoz. Since the Spaniard’s appointment, Garner has played just 40 minutes of football. (h/t Manchester Evening News)
Manchester United and Watford have both agreed to terminate the loan deal. And Garner is now set to join two time European Cup winners Forest on loan for the remainder of the season.
Nottingham were not the only club interested in signing him. The midfielder was also pursued by Queens Park Rangers.
A step up for a step down?
However, he has chosen Forest and will have a medical at City Ground. The report also states that the official announcement is expected to come before the January deadline.
The Englishman has made 7 senior appearances for the senior side. He came on against Crystal Palace in February 2019 for his first-team debut.
Apart from that, he also played in four Europa League games the following season. If the Championship table is seen, this would be a step down for Garner.
He is leaving Watford, who are 3rd in the table and one of the favourites for promotion, and joining 20th-placed Forest. However, he could be given more playing time there.
