Timothy Fosu-Mensah keen to show his worth after completing Bayer Leverkusen switch
According to Daily Mail, Timothy Fosu-Mensah has left Manchester United to join Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth £1.8million.
Signed from Ajax Amsterdam in 2014, the Dutch international made just 30 appearances for United in all competitions. Injuries played a major role in the player’s predicament, with him missing 79 games in the last four years itself.
Fosu-Mensah served at United under three different managers and also enjoyed two spells out on loan. With him failing to leave an impact with any of them, his exit was inevitable.
He joins a Bayer side who are flying high in the Bundesliga. Die Werkself are currently just four points off Bayern Munich and are hoping to challenge for the title.
Fosu-Mensah’s contract at the BayArena runs until 2024. He will be joining a side that currently has the second-best defence in the German top-flight.
According to MEN (h/t Daily Mail), the 23-year-old is excited to begin a new chapter in his career. With a clean slate at his disposal, he is now keen to showcase exactly what he can do.
“It’s going to be really exciting.”
A versatile player, Fosu-Mensah is capable of playing in a variety of positions. Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes holds the youngster in high regard and believes he can still develop.
“Timothy is a technically adept, fast and physically strong defender who can be used as a right-back and also in the centre.”
Fosu-Mensah believes Leverkusen are an excellent prospect for him both individually and collectively. He will don the No.34 jersey for the Germans.
