Ligue 1 side Nice in talks with the representatives of Manchester United star Jesse Lingard
According to Sky Sports, Manchester United star Jesse Lingard has emerged as a target for Ligue 1 side OGC Nice.
Having come through the United academy, the 28-year-old has been a peripheral figure at Old Trafford over the past eighteen months. A combination of injuries, personal problems and a loss of form have all contributed to Lingard’s fall from grace.
Lingard has made just three appearances for the club this season. He is yet to play a single minute in the league this campaign. (h/t Transfermarkt)
The player’s representatives have held initial discussions with Nice. The French side is expected to make an official approach next week.
United are yet to make a decision over the player’s long-term future. His current deal at Old Trafford expires in the summer of 2022.
Nice is not the only foreign club keen on Lingard. Spanish hotshots Real Sociedad too were linked with a move for the player last month.
Interest in Lingard has also come from a number of domestic sides. The likes of Aston Villa, West Bromwich Albion, Sheffield United, Celtic, and Rangers are all keen on the 28-year-old. (h/t Birmingham Mail)
Lingard scored just four goals in 40 appearances for the club last season. An abysmal record that has reflected in him falling out of favour.
This has also affected the player’s international prospects. A starter for England in the 2018 World Cup, he has also not featured for the Three Lions since June 2019.

Lingard’s role at United is very minute and is unlikely to improve this season. Given the quality on offer at the club, it is difficult to see him break into the XI on a regular basis.
A move away would be the ideal result for all parties involved.
