Manchester United told what they need to do to land Kalidou Koulibaly
Speaking on TalkSport (h/t The Sun), Jim White has revealed what Manchester United will need to fork out to land Kalidou Koulibaly.
The Senegalese star is one of Europe’s top defenders and would be an excellent addition to United. The Red Devils have been linked with a move for him for some time now. (h/t Daily Star)
Speaking to Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis, White has discovered what it would take to prise the defender from the Gli Azzuri.
As expected, it will not take anything short of a king’s ransom to land Koulibaly. De Laurentiis brushed off the chances of the defender leaving the club in the near future.
However, it doesn’t appear to be set in stone, with a price tag of at least £100million put on his head.
“Anyone going in with anything other than £100million for Koulibaly can forget it.”
With his contract running until 2023, Napoli are in a strong position when it comes to negotiations.
Bang for the buck?
United are keen to bring in a dependable partner for skipper Harry Maguire. While Koulibaly can do just that, he is too expensive.
Set to turn 30 this year, Koulibaly is not a long-term option. Having to break the club record to bring in a new player who can contribute at the top level for a handful of years is not prudent.
While we have no issues with the club spending money, we rather they do it elsewhere where better value can be obtained. One such player is Ddayot Upamecano.
The Frenchman has a much lower release clause and also has at least a decade of top-level action left in him.
