Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reveals Timothy Fosu-Mensah transfer status at Manchester United
Speaking in a pre-match interview (h/t Manchester Evening News), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer stated that Timothy Fosu-Mensah has been allowed to talk to other clubs for a transfer away from Manchester United.
Earlier, it was revealed that the Dutch defender had rejected a three-and-a-half-year deal at the club. It was said that the defender felt “undervalued” by the contract.
Ever since then, the 23-year-old has been tipped to move away from Old Trafford. And now, Solskjaer revealed that Fosu-Mensah has been in talks with other clubs over a January move.
Although, the Norwegian is not sure when exactly the former Ajax player will leave. If he stays past January, then United could stand to lose him on a free transfer next summer.
“He’s not played enough, so of course he’s been allowed to speak to clubs with a view to leaving now in January. It might be end of January or in the summer.”
Lack of playing time
Solskjaer admitted that the Dutchman is at an age where he needs to play more first-team football and that he is not able to get that United because of the club already having a lot of talented players. (h/t Manchester Evening News)
Fosu-Mensah has made just one Premier League appearance this season. That came in the opening day loss to Crystal Palace, and since then, the defender has found it incredibly hard to get a look-in.
While losing him would not be the biggest blow United could face in the transfer market, his versatility could be missed. He can play both at centre-back and right-back.
