Matej Kovar could return to Manchester United after poor loan spell at Swindon
A report by Swindon Advertiser (h/t Manchester Evening News) states that loaned out goalkeeper Matej Kovar could return to Manchester United.
The news comes after the 20-year-old’s poor season at League One club Swindon Town. His team lies 23rd in the table, with relegation to League Two looking more and more likely.
Kovar has started 18 of their 20 league games but has failed to impress so far. The Czech goalkeeper has let in 35 goals, conceding at an average of just under 2 goals a game. (h/t Transfermarkt)
He has kept just one clean sheet in the league. This has prompted the club to consider a shakeup in the goalkeeping department. This could see the on-loan goalkeeper return to Old Trafford. (h/t Manchester Evening News)
A potential return?
Manchester United currently do not have any need for Kovar. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is already in a dilemma between David de Gea and Dean Henderson.
David de Gea is the club’s long-standing No.1 but Dean Henderson impressed on loan at Sheffield United and has been the same since his return to Old Trafford.
This is probably the reason why Kovar was loaned out in the summer. He could come back and re-join the U23 squad where he would have to fight for the starting spot with Paul Woolston.
The U-20 Czech Republic international is yet to reach his prime years and has a long way ahead of him. If he is to return to Old Trafford, then Neil Wood and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must lay out a careful plan for him.
