Darren Fletcher promoted to first-team coaching staff at Manchester United
A report by Daily Mail mentions that Darren Fletcher has been promoted to the position of a first-team coach at Manchester United.
The report mentions that Manchester United have given him the promotion due to his impressive stint with the U-16 team. This will be Fletcher’s first senior coaching job.
The Scotsman retired from playing football in 2019 after stints with Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion. In his prime, the versatile midfielder played 342 matches for the club over a period of 12 years.
In that time, he won 10 trophies under Sir Alex Ferguson. It included 5 league titles, 3 domestic cups, and one UEFA Champions League in 2008.
After such a glittering playing career, Fletcher would now hope to replicate this success as a coach. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer expressed his happiness at the news of the 26-year-old’s promotion.
“Darren has the United DNA running through his veins and he knows exactly what it takes to be a Manchester United player.”
Fletcher also commented on his own appointment as a first-team coach and said that he looks forward to growing as a first-team coach with a young and exciting Manchester United squad.
“I am looking forward to taking the next steps in my coaching career by working with Ole and his staff.”
Manchester United are second in the Premier League table, level on points with league leaders Liverpool. Filling the backroom staff with able individuals who know the history of the club can only be a good move.
