Manchester United want Erling Haaland instead of Jadon Sancho
A report by the Mirror states that Manchester United board members do not regret missing out on Jadon Sancho last summer, and instead want Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.
United were poised to sign Jadon Sancho in the summer, but a £108m asking price put them off. The signing was believed to spur Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team into the title race, which has happened without him.
That has led the United board to refocus their interest on Norwegian superstar Erling Haaland. Solskjaer reportedly made a late dash to sign Haaland last year, but nothing came of it.
Now, it is reported that the striker has a £70m release clause that kicks in next summer. With 33 goals in 32 matches, Haaland has attracted interest from giants such as FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.
However, it is believed that both the Spanish clubs are in a state of rebuilding, and United are further down that road.
The drawback will be that the club will have to deal with the troublesome Mino Raiola, who has stirred up a lot of controversy in the Paul Pogba matter already. However, it is believed that the club would be willing to work with the superagent if it meant Haaland would arrive.
A bullet dodged?
The club has a winger in Amad Diallo coming from Atalanta this month for £37m. In such a situation, the club is not prioritizing Sancho.
United’s failure to sign the player in the summer was seen as a lack of intent from the board. However, the team has done just fine since the start of the season. Sancho, on the other hand, has been in a poor run of form, with sporting director Michael Zorc convinced the Englishman is ‘distracted’.
Sancho has not scored once in the Bundesliga this season, with Dortmund lagging behind in the title race. In all honesty, United can use both these players.

The club lacks a natural right-winger who is good enough to start, and Haaland is a goal-scoring machine who could instantly boost the team’s scoring output.
