Timothy Fosu-Mensah stance revealed after rejecting new Manchester United contract
A report by Manchester Evening News states that Timothy Fosu-Mensah wants to stay at Manchester United despite turning down a new contract.
The 22-year-old turned down a 3-year contract extension at Manchester United earlier this week. However, the reason behind it is not because he wants to leave.
The report states that the Dutch defender felt ‘undervalued’ by the terms of the new contract. His preference is to stay at Old Trafford despite attracting interest from a bunch of foreign clubs.
Ligue 1 sides AS Monaco and Marseille as well as Bundesliga teams Bayer Leverkusen and Hertha Berlin have all been linked with the defender recently.
Fosu-Mensah’s contract was extended in the summer by one year but he is now into the final few months of his contract. The defender is open to discuss terms with foreign clubs in January over a possible transfer.
The defender changed his agent last year and was kept at United after ‘project restart’ because his training attitude impressed the manager. (h/t Manchester Evening News)
However, that trust from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is yet to show. Fosu-Mensah has just made three appearances this season, with only one of them coming in the Premier League – the opening day defeat to Crystal Palace.
The Red Devils are second in the table. However, we have conceded the most goals amongst the top 10 teams in the league.
Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof are the club’s most trusted centre-backs but have rarely been challenged for the starting spot. Moreover, United also struggled to find a back-up for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

In such a situation, Fosu-Mensah could be a vital player for the club. The former Ajax youth product can play as a centre-back and also slot in at right-back.
