A report by the Telegraph (h/t Liverpool Echo) claims that Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani will not face any retrospective ban from the FA for shoving defender Yerry Mina.

The incident happened on Wednesday when United faced Everton in the Carabao Cup quarter-final. The match ended 2-0 as Cavani and Martial scored late on, but the outcome of the match could have been different.

The incident was addressed in the post-match interview by both the managers and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said there was “nothing” in the incident. Despite the Norwegian’s words, Cavani was still in hot water up until this week.

Good news for Solskjaer

The former PSG striker faced a retrospective ban of up to 3 matches. That is no longer something the club should worry about as Cavani has been cleared by the FA.

This is not the 33-year-old’s first run-in with the FA this season. He was earlier sanctioned for an Instagram post for ‘bringing the game into disrepute‘.

The news of Cavani not being banned is timely good news for the club. The clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers is our 4th match in 9 days, and things are not expected to slow down anytime soon.

United have an important League Cup semi-final against Manchester City coming in the first week of January. And Solskjaer would be buzzing to have the Uruguayan available for it.
