Manchester United promote 5 youngsters to first-team training ahead of Wolves clash
A report by Manchester Evening News mentions that 5 youngsters trained with the Manchester United first-team at Carrington on Sunday ahead of their fixture against Wolves.
Ethan Laird, Anthony Elanga, Facundo Pellistri, Shola Shoretire, and Will Fish all trained with the senior squad. The decision to call up youngsters to the first-team practice session isn’t all that surprising.
The game against Wolves is the fourth match United play in a space of 9 days. Several first-team players were also given an off from their training session on Sunday in a bid to recover quickly. (h/t Manchester Evening News)
The 5 youngsters are a very prominent part of United’s U-23 team that plays in Premier League 2. Facundo Pellistri, signed by the club in the summer, has been highly impressive this season for U-23.
Joining the 18-year-old Uruguayan winger was Swedish striker Anthony Elanga, 19-year-old defender Laird, 16-year-old prodigy Shoretire, and 17-year-old centre-back Fish were the other three youngsters.
Timely rotation
Solskjaer is also expected to rotate his side after the 2-2 draw against Leicester City. That game featured Victor Lindelof as an auxiliary right-back in place of Aaron Wan-Bissaka. (h/t Manchester Evening News)
Lindelof was forced off with an injury in the 66th minute but Wan-Bissaka returned to training on Sunday. This news also comes after Wolves have had 32 hours less than United to prepare for the fixture on Tuesday night.
The youngsters may go on to play an important role as cover for the first-team squad. The fixture list ahead is relentless as United play in the league, Carabao Cup, and FA Cup before January 10.

Out of the five, only Ethan Laird has had a start with the first-team. Laird featured in two Europa League games as a right-back in the 2019/20 season.
