Swap deal for Cristiano Ronaldo and Paul Pogba is highly unlikely as Manchester United pull the plug
A report by ESPN (h/t Express) states that a swap deal involving Cristiano Ronaldo and Paul Pogba will not be pursued by Manchester United.
Ed Woodward, the executive vice-chairman of United, is said to not be interested in such a move in the near future.
It was earlier rumoured that Ronaldo could make a return to Old Trafford in a possible swap deal. Ronaldo signed for United in 2003 spent 6 years at Old Trafford under Sir Alex Ferguson.
In that time, he scored 188 goals and provided 69 in 292 appearances and won a UEFA Champions League title, 3 Premier League trophies, and the first of his 5 Ballon d’Ors. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Juventus want to get Ronaldo off their wage bill but despite that, a return to United will be highly unlikely. This was also not the first time United have been linked with a move for the Portuguese.
Earlier this month, Paul Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola dropped a bombshell saying that Pogba’s time at Manchester United was ‘over’. (h/t Daily Mail)
The club re-signing Ronaldo, even if it meant that Pogba went the other way, would probably have gone down well with a lot of United fans. To say Ronaldo is an ‘icon’ at the club is an understatement.

He would have definitely brought the spotlight back to Old Trafford with his star power. And apart from his stardom off the field, he’s still pretty good when it comes to scoring and creating goals.
The 35-year-old has proven that age is just a number as he has gone on to score 16 goals for Juventus in his 14 appearances so far this season.
